On February 21st, the Fairfax County Executive submitted the proposed FY 2024 budget (starting July 1st). The City of Alexandria Manager submitted the proposed FY 2024 (also starting July 1st) on February 28th.
Both Fairfax County and City of Alexandria leave the real estate tax rate unchanged at $1.11 per $100 of assessed value. However, the real estate property tax owed will increase as the assessed value of residential properties increased versus 2022.
Property tax assessments for 2023 were mailed to homeowners in mid- to late-February by both Fairfax County and City of Alexandria.

The average increase in real estate assessment for residential property in the Mason district (where Overlook is located/the Mason district borders City of Alexandria) is 6.34% versus $6.97 countywide.
The average increase in the real estate assessment for single family residential properties (excluding condos) in the West End of Alexandria is between 4.62%-5.12%, depending upon the neighborhood.
